Guest: Susan
Theme: Bees
Word of the Day: charisma
Toastmaster: Hadassah used her Bee Theme during the evening to seamlessly connect one speaker to the next, during which she enlightened us about the Bee World with facts and figures, none of us knew before. Hadassah used some beautiful turns of phrase such as "Flowers are running lots of advertising campaigns at the moment" , The new adult bees "gain their wings" to enable them to fly, and their GPS system to be able to return to base after flight". Fabulous first effort at Toastmaster Hadassah.
Grammarian: Julie advised what her role involved regarding ums, ahs, so's and other fillers plus paying particular attention to the use of great words or phrases, which she later drew to speakers' attention.
Day in History Mark took us on a long, a very long journey going back millions if not billions of years to events that happened historically on 10th November including the birth of CocaCola 100 years ago and when the first printed money was produced in China 1,000 years ago.
1st Speaker: Debs with a PowerPoint educational - "Evaluate to Motivate" which covered the whole gamut of the topic from Why evaluations are necessary, to How to give a helpful and effective evaluation using analysis of what you Heard, Saw and Felt during the speech you are evaluating. At the end of her speech, Debs provided all members with a comprehensive hand-out with all the information necessary to become a textbook evaluator. Terrific speech Debs with heaps of fabulous tips.
2nd Speaker: Nicole with a speech she is scheduled to give to a Scientific conference "Functional Divergence of Orthologous Proteins associated with Invasiveness" . Although few in her audience had any scientific backgrounds, Nicole's deep knowledge of her subject, which we gathered to be DNA in Salmonella, and her obvious passion for her experimental results with DNA, produced a spellbound audience hanging on every word. Great speech Nicole, you will be a sensation at your Conference.
Tabletopicsmaster: Pauline
Speakers Mark, Julie and Ladi
Timer: Pauline did a sterling job of timer.
