Meeting Theme: The Gods
Word of the Day: Fallible
Sgt@Arms: Michael did the honours regarding house-keeping and safety and then introduced the Toastmaster for the night.
Toastmaster: Ryan Jay, using the Gods theme, moved from speaker to speaker keeping up a good pace, so that his times allocated were adhered to. Ryan Jay used humour well and did a great job during the evening.
1st Speaker: Judy with "My Initial Culture Shock in NZ" had her audience rolling with laughter as she gave examples of "kiwi-isms" she encountered when she first went to Waikato University. For example the common expression "Sweet as" she interpreted as meaning "Sweet donkey" which made no sense.. Nor did "asking for a pin" make sense when in fact the word was "pen". She also covered the curiosity of the "honesty box" outside fruit and vegetable farms. Judy thought that in her home country Malaysia, both the money and the produce would both be taken. She marvelled at Kiwi honesty. Another great speech from Judy. Very well done.
2nd speaker: Nick with "Capture the Light" talked about how to take the best pictures by using light in the right places. Nick backed up his directions with PowerPoint projections of Old Master paintings that showed how the light in their pictures made them so beautiful and so famous. Very helpful tips thank you Nick. We will all be practising what you taught us when we are taking our next "Selfies".Great.
3rd Speaker: Debs with "Arachnophobia" ie fear of spiders, scared us all with stories and photos of various hairy eight-legged critters she has met over the years and which frightened the devil out of her. Her audience were pleased that she was the one who met her nemeses in the jungles of Africa and the rivers of South America and not them. Especially the huge beastie with "evil eyes" that sat on her pillow and winked at her when she woke up and eye-balled the holy terror. Eeks and begorrah. Great speech that had us all itching as she spoke.
Tabletopics Master: Pauline used memories as her theme:
-Marlese - Moving house
-Hadassah- Moving to the city
-Marry - My influential teacher
-Sherini - Fave TV shows
-Marshal- spoke briefly about himself.
Grammarian: Hadassah did a great job as Grammarian pointing out splendid uses of words and grammar. Well done.
Timer: Larry clearly showed he was on the ball all through the evening meticulously recording speaking times. Thank you Larry.
