Theme leadership
Bard Gail read a Press article about Celia Lashlie. Such a
wonderful woman, she will be sadly missed.
1st speaker Angara with "Sleep" told us if we live till age
90 we will spend 32 years sleeping! Wow, what a waste.
Angara gave a us a long list of how many hours of sleep
we need at each stage of our journey through life.
She reminded us that lack of sleep causes poor memory
power and even sickness. Next speech, tell us how to get
to sleep when we can't will you?. Well done Angara.
2nd speaker Richard with "We are not alone" explored
the likelihood that there are other life forms in the
universe. Richard showed us several "extremophiles" -
animals that can adapt to extremes of heat/cold/acidity
or even no oxygen or radio-active areas. We particularly
loved 'gummybear' only a millemetre long called
Tardigrade which can withstand temperatures from
-200°C up to 151°C, lack of water and oxygen,
“boiling alcohol,” (who thought of that?) and a
thousand times the radiation we can take.
Great speech Richard.
3rd speaker Julie with "Scholastic Terrorism"
took us back to schooldays and bullying. She
gave evidence that bullying appears to begin
between pre-school and 8yrs old (90% of
teachers thought so). Julie suggested we use
volunteers in the schoolyard as Senior
Monitors to supervise breaktimes and stop
bullying in its tracks. Julie outlined the skills
that male monitors could bring boys and
female monitors to girls. The speech was
well received.
Tabletopics Aman did a great job with his
role and Mark s, Kerry, Jitendra and Leela
all spoke well.
Great evening folks. See u next week!
