Meeting 11 December 2014

Toastmaster Carolina opened the meeting and gave us a Theme of "Gifts"

Word of the Day Aman explained his roll tonight and gave us "Blissful" meaning

great joy or happiness as our WotD.

Day in History Ryan-Jay gave  us a long list of famous characters related to this day

in history eg. King James, William of Orange, Edward the V11, Louis V1

1st Speaker Sunjeet in his Icebreaker called "My Journey" pointed out hardly

anybody ever says his name properly and it wes even misspelled on his wedding

invitations. Sunjeet was glad the "other man" did not turn up at the wedding and marry

the "love of his life". He has a MSc in Computer Studies, married with two children.

Well done Sunjeet, an amusing afirst speech showing great promise.

2nd Speaker Jitendra with "Dance of Buildings" told us all about how buildings shake

during earthquakes. He used the analogy of the circular waves when a stone is thrown

into a pool of water to demonstarte seismic  shock waves causing vibration which

makes buildings shake. Jitendra used a model to demonstrate the shaking phenomenom.

Excellent speech Jitendra. Well done.

3rd Speech  Shailesh with "Inner Peace" talked about how our "ego-driven need

for success" precludes inner peace. "We need to learn to control our minds/emotions

to achieve Inner Peace". If we are stressed out "we need to let  emotion come and

let it go" to avoid restless activity in the mind.

A thoughtful speech Shailesh. Very well done.

Tabletopics Master Elena took on the "gift" theme - "Yesterday is the Past

                                                                                         Tomorrow is the Future

                                                                                         But today is a Gift

                                                                                         That's why it is called The Present"

Julie - The new bathing costujme

MarkE - VHS paradise at age 90

Ryan-Jay - Santa and the empty stocking

Timer Ryan M made a splendid first time Timer. Well done Ryan.

A great evening enjoyed by all. See you next week for the last meeting of the year.

A few people asked me for the reflection from last night on THE GIFT OF PEOPLE so here it is Wink

People are gifts

They are already wrapped,

some beautifully, others less attractively;

Some gifts have been mishandled in the mail,

others come by special delivery;

some are loosely wrapped

others are tightly enclosed

but the wrapping is not the gift.

This is an important realisation,

it is easy to make a mistake

and judge the contents by the cover.

Sometimes the gift is opened very easily,

sometimes the help of others is needed -

maybe it is because they are afraid,

or maybe they have been hurt;

it could be that they were once opened and discarded.

Each person is a gift, unique and special.

Don't be afraid to look inside the gift that is you

and learn to accept the gift in each person you meet.

Every meeting and sharing of persons is an exchange of gifts.

My gift is me, your gift is you

We are gifts to each other.

And so I am reminded are we gifts to each other in Toastmasters!
