Blog  (Riccarton Toastmasters)
Meeting 20th November 2014

Guest tonight was  Ryan and we are delighted to

say that recent guests Sunjeet and Angana have

 become Toastmaster members. Great

news and a warm welcome to Riccarton Club to both

of you.

Sgt@Arms Richard welcomed our guest Ryan and

opened the meeting telling us what to do if we need

to escape the building quickly because of emergency.

Toastmaster Mark S encouraged us to grow moustaches

for MO-vember - Men's Prostate Cancer Awareness.

Prostate Cancer is the biggest cancer killer of men in NZ

Day inHistory   Shailesh had a great list of things that

happened this day - Queen Elizabeth II got married and

Microsoft reslease Windows V1 among events.

1st Speaker Aman with his"Icebreaker" speech told us about

coming from Nepal, becoming a an Electrical Engineer and

suggested to us that if the power goes off in Christchurch

is could just be his fault. Great first speech and definitely

a candidate for humourous speeches later on. Well done.

2nd Speaker Sasha with "Why I became a vegetarian"

 was a text-book example of a minimalist

PowerPoint presentation i.e. few slides and only 2 or 3

headlines on each slide. I didn't realise until tonight that

carnivorous animals have more than the 2 pointed canine

flesh-tearing teeth/fangs humans have. Whether Sasha

has persuaded us all to become vegetarians remains to

be seen but her speech was excellent.

3rd Speaker Gail gave an Educational "Select your topic"

gave great hints how we can all become better speakers

by choosing better topics. Great speech Gail.

Tabletopics Master Jitendra carried on his personal

theme The Christchurch Earthquake:

Sunjeet: spoke to "The Student Army"

Gail:       spoke to "Sleepy Firemen"

Elena:     spoke to "Dust Storm"

Shailesh: spoke to "The CTV  Building"

Ryan:      spoke to "Rescue in City Mall".

Great off the cuff speeches everyone and

congratgulations to guest Ryan for carrying

off his first speaking experience so well.

Very well done everybody.

Timer  Ladi did an excellent job on the stop-

watch and traffic lights having to use the

"hippo" alarm only once for speaking over time.

 Christmas Party 6th December 4pm - 7pm

at Richards 7 Elmwood Drive, Prebbleton.

Bring your children/wife/husband and

something to eat -bread/salads/desserts

meat supplied by the Club. Warm water

swimming pool and lifesaver on watch.

Please email Richard urgently and let him

know how many people you will be bringing

with you..

See you next week. Same time. Same place.
