Looking to improve your speaking and leadership skills? Ignite your career? Gain the confidence to speak up?  You’ve come to the right place. Since 1924, Toastmasters International has helped more than 4 million people just like you, from around the world, become more confident speakers and leaders. Every Toastmasters club shares the same mission, clearly defined in the following mission statement:

We provide a supportive and positive learning experience in which members are empowered to develop communication and leadership skills, resulting in greater selfconfidence and personal growth.

Don't delay! Become the speaker and leader you want to be. Confident, charismatic leaders weren't born that way. As you progress in Toastmasters, you'll get to practice your skills by organising and conducting meetings and motivating others to help you. Become a better negotiator. Gain trust. Level Up Challenge

Club President Veronica Lange invites club members to participate in her "Level Up Challenge." This challenge encourages all members to take their Toastmasters journey to the next level by making a commitment to regularly giving speeches. The suggested level of participation is one speech per month and moving up at least one level in your chosen pathway. The motto for the challenge is, "Your successful growth in Toasmters is Our Shared Success!"

We look forward to hearing you speech at an upcoming meeting! Reach out to StatelyOffs-DL@state.gov if you have any questions about scheduling a speech.

Letter from our Current President

Fellow Toastmasters and Guests,

Welcome to Stately Speakers, a Toastmasters club for current and former U.S. State Department Employees. We are all here to get improve our public speaking in a supportive, empowering environment for the benefit of both our professional and personal speaking skills.

Why Toastmasters? Have ever felt nervous, or anxious preparing for a speech at work? Or trying to strike up a conversation at dinner? Well you are not alone! According to the National Institute of Mental Health 40% of people have a phobia of public speaking! I myself love talking but preparing a speech is a whole other beast. I get nervous, start talking faster, and sometimes forget what i am saying.

So I am purposefully torturing myself by weekly setting aside time for speaking? No. I'm fighting back.

How? Well, each week I have an opportunity to speak by responding to a table topic, in a preapared speech, taking on an evaluation role etc. Each of those opportunities strengthens my confidence and speaking ability. One small step at a time in this supportive environment I get better, and now no matter where I am presenting I am increasingly able to overcome fears: speaking confidently, precisely, and in an interesting way.

Each of these victories then builds my confidence and that my friends is momentum! You can do this too. Jump in on a meeting, sign up for your next speech or role. Get that momentum moving and build your confidence!

 Announcing Emergency Backup Care

IQ: Information Quest is a Department paid benefit through Federal Occupational Health (FOH) to help you better manage work and life responsibilities. When your regular child or adult care plans fall through or your own plans change at the last minute, scrambling to find alternate child or adult care arrangements can be stressful, expensive, and time consuming. Fortunately, you have access to Emergency Backup Care, a pilot work-life support feature that has been added to the Department’s well-established IQ: Information Quest referral service.  If you have any questions about IQ: Information Quest or Emergency Backup Care, please contact the Department’s IQ: Information Quest / Emergency Backup Care  program manager: Elizabeth A. Royal.  Call  866-552-IQ4U (4748) (or TDD/TTY 800-873-1322) 24 hours a day.  http://intranet.hr.state.sbu/EmployeeRelations/WorkLifeDivision.
